காயத்ரியும் கசாப்பும்

அனுதினம் தவறாது
காயத்ரி சொல்லி
சந்தியா செய்தவன்
கடல் கடந்து
கணக்கு பார்க்கிறான்
கசாப்பு கடைக்காரனுக்கு
கம்ப்யூட்டரில் அமெரிக்காவில்!

P.S
Dedicated to one of my best buddy who inspired this :P

Ennaththa solla. pozhappu appadi.

True what Ramesh says. Again, that was old time reasoning for a brahmin not to cross seas. (again enge brahmanan :()

In IBM in the US in eighties and even nineties, supposedly on Aavani Avittam, there used to be a virtual holiday for the sacred thread (poonal) changing. Maybe no more. :-)

It was just to point out the irony as felt by him!.
Actually felt i would spin it as a story, later thought this was apt.
I am not sure what is the error that i have made :( If you people let me know the error would be glad
@CG So what? ;)Food is the individual preference you see

Nothing in error. It was taboo for brahmins to cross the seas at some point in time.

Crossing the sea was considered as unbrahminical (no clear reason why) and hence gayathri / sandhyavandhanam was secondary for that 'excommunicated' brahmin.

oh okie okie
i thought i made some mistake b/w gayathri and sandhya :)

I know it was taboo! tat's why even in recent days one of the kanchi swamiji's said no overseas travel something something like that.

My statement was for the kasappu kadaikkaran pointer.
As u say its individual preference - My vote is always for vegetarians by choice and not vegetarians by birth.

Guys, The reason why the Brahmins were not allowed to cross the seas is this - It is a RULE for a brahmin to do sandhya worship 3 times a day and also some agni hotras. And there is another rule that these are to be done only on land. In those days, when a person has to cross a sea, it has to be in ship only and that would take days to reach a shore. So, he would not be able to do sandhya worship at all. This is the reason why he was prohibited. But nowadays, with superfast planes, one can do all 3 worships on land of different countries, provided he has a place to do it. :-)

Dear Zeno, Thanks for your poem!!!

But, there are more chances of "gaayatris" and "sandhyaas" to look at a man, if he is in USA-puram, rather than royapuram :)
